You Know What They Say About Assumptions…

In this episode the Emilys discuss the topic of perceptions vs reality, which quickly becomes a conversation about assumptions. Assumptions are where we blur fact and story. We make them in a millisecond. What if we could get better at catching and challenging our auto-conclusions? The hosts delve into the wondrous workings of the brain and make suggestions on how to let your soul shine and stop making an ass out of u + me.

BOO! Scary Emotions

In this episode we discuss our culture’s tendency to label unpleasant feelings as “bad”, which makes us resist them instead of process and hold them. News flash: unpleasant emotions are part of our contract with life. But the good news is that we can handle them better than we think we can. The Emilys explore how to view and manage feelings that can sometimes be scary.

Organization Pt 1

Emily O. walks us through her theory that all of our thoughts can be broken down into three categories: important, urgent, and mostly irrelevant. The hosts suggest that you maintain an awareness of what values are important to you so that you can have a set filter when sorting through thoughts.

Challenge: Make a note of 3 important things for today first thing in the morning. (Make sure they aren’t being sneaky urgent thoughts.) Bonus points if you categorize some of your thoughts as important, urgent, or mostly irrelevant throughout the day.

AutoPILOT

Emily and Emily discuss their understanding of autopilot and what to do when we’re stuck in it. How can we engage and grow in anything if we’re not practicing awareness? Our definition of autopilot: unaware, undirected forward movement.

Challenge: find stillness for 5 minutes and ask yourself what you want and visualize what you want your life to look like.
